Smart Design for Dynamic Systems

The main task of a Workload Automation Platform is to start every process that is to be run as promptly as possible and in doing so to guarantee optimum throughput for all the systems. Traditional Enterprise Job Scheduling / IT Workload Automation systems work out a daily timetable for this purpose. This then has to be revised or recalculated following every unforeseen event (malfunction, downtimes, on-demand jobs, etc.). A large number of such events typically occur in complex, highly dynamic systems (EDWH, BI, etc.). Traditional systems cannot achieve the stipulated goals to an ideal extent in such an environment.

Inflexible timetables are a thing of the past

In contrast to this method, BICsuite and schedulix (Open Source) work dynamically as a matter of principle and momentarily calculates which processes can be started taking into account all the marginal conditions (priorities, resource availability, etc.). When operating the system, comprehensive intervention possibilities are available for modifying the system behaviour to meet ongoing requirements. Dynamic load controls and load balancing in particular are integral components of the functionality. This also ensures optimum support for dynamically scalable systems (cloud computing). This has the following advantages:

  • Optimum use of the hardware
  • Enhanced stability of the overall system in critical situations
  • Ad hoc requirements can be accommodated at any time
  • Efficient restarting after errors have occurred
  • Reduced planning costs
  • Independent workflow optimisation
